Al Williamson: R.I.P.

The first time I can remember seeing Al Williamson's work was in the collection of EC stories printed by Ballintine Book's, "Tales of the Incredible," in about 1965. I wondered if all comic book art had once looked like these reprinted stories. I soon realized that the EC comics from the early 1950's had been something special and that not all comic book artists were as good as Williamson, Frazetta and Wood - R.I.P. all.

What detail in his work!

His figure drawing was always especially elegant and graceful. Those alien mushrooms are a signature detail of his.
