The Monster Maker, Gene Colan

Here is a story, over at Four-Color Shadows, drawn by Gene Colan for the 1954 Atlas comic book Wild.

The art has a strange combination of realism, as in the monster's face , and cartoon exaggeration, for example the woman's face in panel three. Colan seems to make this mixing of styles work.

It looks like Colan only had one reference photo of the Glenn Strange monster's features - the monster's head and expression look the same throughout the story, except on the next to last panel of the final page. The new expression and style the creature is drawn in change. You will need to visit Four-Color Shadows to see the entire story.
