The British Library

I just ran across the site of The British Library. I haven't had the time to explore it fully; but it appears to be an absolute treasure of images and information.

You can view scans of medieval manuscripts or a notebook of William Blakes'. Check out a section called Turning the Pages.

The picture here is an engraved image of a tableaux created by the anatomist Frederick Ruysch (1638-1731) - body part specimens in glass jars, baby skeletons, and preserved organs sat alongside exotic birds, butterflies and plants.

It is worth spending some time exploring this site.
