In 1960 Marvel, which was still being called Atlas, comics was, like DC, also taking advantage of the popularity of monsters and science fiction.
Tales to Astonish was originally published from 1959 through issue #101. In 1968, with issue # 102, the book became The Incredible Hulk. Marvel's characters like The Hulk and The Thing were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby as a result of Marvel's success with it's previous monster books. The new revival of the superhero genre was still young in 1960 and Marvel's characters The Hulk and The Thing, from The Fantastic Four, were an easy transition for monster fans to follow into the new superhero stories.
