The web log The Pictorial Arts has been running a series of posts with New Yorker Christmas covers. Looking at all these cover illustrations is a bit of a sad experience. I see that illustration, in all its stylistic manifestations and creative explorations of theme, is a wonderfully rich art form. It is a pity that illustration is a dying art form - not because there are not talented illustrators but because there are very few markets for illustration.

Illustration…HOHOHO
