It started out as a quick pencil sketch that I then inked and colored in Illustrator CS2 with only gray values .
Exporting the art with layers into Photoshop, I added a bit of texture, color, and some airbrush work to the art.
That sounds easy enough; but it took me several tries to get things balanced and to my liking. Maybe, I'll post some of the other versions I did of this art.
