One consistent element in the art I have done since I was a boy is monsters.

The Two Frogs
I am fortunate to have a bee-yute-a-fool sister who, although seeming to be perfectly normal and conservative, has a love for all creatures living and not yet proved to exist. For my birthday this year, she sent me a vintage book of Japanese folk tales, Little Peachling by Georgene Faulkner, 1928, where it is perfectly normal for a pair of frogs to decide to take a journey.
I have read this simple story before; but I always thought of it as only a story about characters doing a silly thing. With friends whose children are leaving home for far off colleges to start a new life, I am beginning to think that this tale is about setting a goal and finishing what you start.
