The Windigo (Wendigo, witiku), of the northern United States and Canadian forests, is said to be a person who has become a cannibal, through choice or unfortunate circumstances. That person is then transformed into a powerful hairy creature so that it can eat even more human flesh. The Windigo seems to be the bad guy of the hairy hominid forest dwellers.This 1974 cover from Marvel Comics is from Monsters Unleashed # 9 and is credited to Earl Norem. I don't know why the woman is wearing a skimpy red cocktail dress, in the middle of a lumber camp, in the dead of winter; but she appear to be the creature's next entree.

The story in the magazine has no female character in it! I think ol' Wendigo is just posing for a publicity shot.
