Everyone needs to look over their shoulder on Halloween.

The Bigfoot Monkey Suit

If you are following the Georgia Bigfoot news, here is a link to the latest on YouTube. The BBC has also reported on the recent claims about the Bigfoot carcass.

I don't think anyone was surprised at the story being exposed as a hoax. The surprise is that so many people wanted it to be true and at how successful the hoaxers were at getting worldwide publicity. There are more people in the world thinking about strange creatures than you thought there were. Bigfoot has escaped once again.

Big Hoax?

Today's front page of the Oakland Tribune features a story about yesterday's Bigfoot news conference in Palo Alto, California. I thought the comment yesterday about possum DNA was just a joke; but that is what one of the samples sent for testing showed. I guess it is all about being famous for a few minutes, selling some t-shirts, and giving expensive tours to the site. If there were only a few dancing girls and a barker with a come-on-pitch, that would seem more honest.

Hey, speaking of t-shirts! You can always go to my online store for those. It was worth a try. I'll tell you outright, my stuff is for nothing more than fun.

Bigfoot Found?

On the heels of recent chupacabra news is the announcement that Bigfoot hunters have found, bagged and preserved the remains of a 500 lb. Bigfoot corpse.

It has always been assumed that Bigfoot got its name from the large tracks it has left; but this creature's remains were, allegedly, discovered in the northern Georgia woods --a long way from the enigmatic hominid's famous California stomping grounds. The name Bigfoot may say more about the cryptid's travel range than it's shoe size. I may sound a bit skeptical; but it would be pretty cool if it is true.

The Georgia hunters are reported to be holding a news conference in Palo Alto, California on August 15th - to present their evidence.

BIGfoot News

Last month, a hunter named Rick Jacobs discovered this photo on his camera after having set it on automatic timer in the Allegheny National Forest. He was hoping to photograph deer.

Allegeheny National Forest is in the same neck of the woods as my homeland of rural Western Pennsylvania. There are lots of thickly wooded areas where someone (or something) could roam undetected, and many Bigfoot sightings have been reported. Our oral family history includes the legend of my mom and brother chasing old Sasquatch away from our field back in the late '60s. Even though I was a youngin', I remember a big racket and my brother scrambling outside in his tidy whities with his bow and arrow, and my mom with her deadly stringmop, to defend the homestead. They came back wide-eyed believers!

Getting back to the point of this Bigfoot tale; the hunter showed the photo to the Bigfoot Research Organization, whose representative said it appears to be a "juvenile Sasquatch." The Pennsylvania Game Commission saw the same photo and declared it to be, without a doubt, a mangy bear. (A photo of a mangy bear appears the left for your comparison.) Think preconceived notions played a role in either authenticating or debunking the evidence?

This week, two big Bigfoot events occur. The History Channel will broadcast a program "Sasquatch Attack" on Wednesday, November 7 at 10 p.m. (Eastern time) as part of its ongoing Monsters series. Then, on Saturday, November 10, the Texas Bigfoot Organization hosts its annual conference. Sasquatch willing, and if the flood waters don't rise, I plan to make the 3-hour tour. At the very least, I'll find a rockin' t-shirt.

Am I a believer? Yes, Virginia, there is a Sasquatch, because (like Santa) it's a lot more fun that way!
